A Miracle in Fiji

The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani HospitalA Hospital with No Billing Counter!

The Fiji Islands, an archipelago in the South Pacific, is renowned for its palm-fringed beaches and coral reefs with crystal-clear lagoons. Yet, beneath its natural beauty, many children in the region face the harsh reality of waiting for quality healthcare.

Imagine the anguish of a parent whose child has a cardiac condition requiring surgery but has no access to life-saving treatment. Feeling helpless, you may come to accept the inevitable, with no choice but to spend precious moments with your child as their condition worsens.

Transforming Healthcare

In April 2022, a beacon of hope emerged with the establishment of the South Pacific's first state-of-the-art pediatric cardiac hospital.

Free of Charge

This is no ordinary healthcare facility. It is a place of love and compassion, where all surgeries and treatments are provided completely free of charge.

Support the Cause

The hospital is funded entirely by donations and the generous support of kind-hearted individuals.

It would be difficult for any of us to imagine a Fiji without the Sai Prema Foundation and the Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital. This hospital dedicated to saving the lives of the children who live with Congenital Heart Disease is nothing short of a blessing to many families who would never have been able to afford open heart surgery abroad.

Could one ever imagine that Fiji would be the home to a Pediatric Cardiac Super-Speciality Hospital where the children of Fiji and the Pacific would receive life-saving heart surgery, and that too, totally free of cost? This is the power of goodness. This is the power of humanity.

“Dr. Shaun Setty, Adult & Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, United States of America”

This is a beautiful hospital on par with what we have in the United States of America. This centre is dedicated to the patient and that's what I love about it. To see the dedication and effort from the members of the Sai Prema Foundation team has motivated us to do the same.

“Professor Dr. Laszlo Kiraly, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Singapore”

The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital is a national asset for the people of Fiji. The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital is really special in the context that professionals here regard their patients and families as their own, they not only cure but also care for all that is done with the heart in the centre. Above all, the services are rendered totally free thereby making high quality super speciality healthcare accessible to all without financial barriers.

“Dr. Roman Gebauer, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Czech Republic”

It is our pleasure to be a part of this programme of saving lives because it is something exceptional for us to witness. The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital, in a span of two years has provided free heart surgeries to 260 children in Fiji and the Pacific. I wish those who spend so much effort to run the hospital, helping unfortunate children with heart defects, full success on this difficult path.

“Dr. Kirsten Finucane, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, New Zealand”

From 2014, Dr. John Wright and I have been coming to Fiji and operating on children but this was difficult as we were operating within the hospitals in Lautoka and Suva and often that meant that we interrupted the other surgeons. But now, to come to the Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital and operate is fantastic! It has really changed the whole experience for us because the hospital here is fully equipped.

“Dr. Prem Sundar Venugopal, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Australia”

It was an amazing experience to conduct the successful surgeries at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital. The facilities provided at the Hospital gave hope to children not only from Fiji but also from the adjoining South Pacific Island countries who underwent heart surgeries and thus positively impacting their lives. This Hospital is acting as a hub of excellence for these children from Fiji and the South Pacific Islands.

“Dr. Shyamdeep Borgohain Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, India”

We had a great experience at Sanjeevani Hospital, Fiji, during our visit in January, 2023. We found the whole setup state of the art and very well equipped. The hospitality was amazing. We did some 22 cardiac surgeries in children with different heart defects and we felt quite comfortable working there. I would be very happy to visit again if and when there is a requirement in the future.

FROM AGONY TO ECSTACY

Grandma's Love
The Story of Skylar
I am forever grateful to Sai Prema Foundation and their work to save the lives of our children and I cannot thank them enough for allowing my grandchild to live a normal life. As Skylar's grandmother, I felt her pain and I could not bear to see her suffering. When she was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease, I was heartbroken. I never knew what congenital heart disease meant. It created fear in me to lose Skylar because all hope seemed lost. She always got upset that she was not able to run and play with her friends. She kept saying 'Grandma, what is happening to me and please help me. But the dark days were replaced with love and happiness thanks to the wonderful doctors and surgeons who saved Skylar's life.
Pain in Silence
The Story of Mereoni
Mereoni is a special child. She has been unable to hear or speak since she was born. When she was bom, she was quite sick. We often saw that she wasn't able to play like the other children and she even showed signs of sickness with her blue finger nails. But she could never speak and I think she kept her struggle and pain within her. But she is a fighter. She goes to her special school. When we found out about her heart problem, we didn't know what to do. We could not afford surgery overseas. But the Lord answered our prayers. We are so happy that she is normal now and the same as the other children. We are so grateful to Sai Prema Foundation for this gift.
Divine Timing
The Story of Litiana
The way Litiana's surgery happened was a miracle. From the time she was born, Litiana was always unwell and ill. She was down with some sort of sickness and it became difficult for us as a family. The doctors told us that Litiana had heart disease and we could not afford to go overseas. Those were very painful and emotional days as we didn't have any solutions. The only solution was to pray to the Lord. One of the doctors of the Sai Prema Foundation told us that Litiana is very lucky because there was a team of Heart surgeons coming to Fiji to perform heart surgeries for children. Our prayers were answered! The surgery was done and the Lord saved our daughter. After surgery, Litiana is a normal child now, perfectly healthy. We are so thankful to Sai Prema Foundation. We didn't have to pay even one dollar for a surgery which costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. We are so grateful and so blessed.
Fate & Destiny
The Story of Timimaia
When we met the surgeons and doctors, they told that it will be a 50-50 because they found two sicknesses in Timaima - heart disease and liver problem as well. The doctors told me they will try their best and told me to be positive and hopeful. But I was too scared and we walked away and didn't agree for the surgery. But Mr. Sumeet Tappoo met us and gave us confidence that the surgeons who had come were the very best in the world and that Timaima was in good hands. We finally decided to go for surgery. That was the scariest moment in life. Giving Timaima to the surgeons. Acutally, I couldn't bare to think that it may be the last time I see her alive. The surgery was a success. From the day of the surgery till today, she has never been admitted to the Hospital and she has never been back in the Hospital. She has never even had any sickness. After the surgery, we can see a big difference. Her life has changed. I thank Sai Prema and the surgeons and doctors who have sacrificed so much for us. Everything was so well organised. It has not been easy.
